Live music festival
York’s Little Festival of Live Music is back, but this time they’re going acoustic. The Black Swan Inn is hosts local performers including the wonderful Gilded Thieves (above), King Courgette, Zak Ford and David Ward Maclean. All proceeds will go towards helping those affected by domestic abuse with IDAS.

York’s 50+ Festival 2014 is here and it’s jam-packed full of exciting things to do from learning how to sail, how to use your iPad, fun runs, book sales, tennis tasters, yoga and even some T’ai chi! Happening all across the city, this is a festival for those who want to try new things and meet new people.

Cassette Store Day
York’s specialist retailer of everything retro from records to pop culture books and funky gifts, The Inkwell, is hosts their second Cassette Store Day. Expect exclusive releases on cassette tape, Bad Paintings DJing and probably beer and cake.

Trainspotting at the NRM
There’s a lot of fun to be had spotting trains at the new season starting at the National Railway Museum this weekend. Curator Bob Gwynne discusses who the first “spotter” was, while a film by Andrew Cross presents the hobby in a new light. There’s plenty for kids from including the Trainspotting Trail.

Songs from the shows
As the autumn nights draw in York Light Opera Company are ready to dazzle us with A Night With The Light at Joseph Rowntree Theatre. This weekend, the talented company will stage songs from favourite musicals such as Guys and Dolls, Miss Saigon and Fiddler on the Roof.
