Panto time: Ali Baba
Local company the Joseph Rowntree Players are back this weekend with their panto Ali Baba And The Forty Thieves. Expect lots of music and madness in this rollicking family production. Join Ali and his comrades from Saturday, December 6 – Saturday 13 at 7.30, with matinees Saturday, 6, Sunday 7 and Saturday 13 at 2.30pm at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre.
Head down to the River Ouse this Saturday, December 6 for the White Rose Head boat race hosted by the University of York Boat Club. As well as locals competing, there will be other teams such as Leeds and Manchester fighting it out for the title with this 3k upstream race so get wrapped up warm and join the spectators from 10.30am.
Winter beer festival
Having recovered from their summer beer fest, The Slip Inn staff and regulars are ready to do it all again. The Clementhorpe pub’s Fifth Annual Winter Festival, features more than 20 ales, lots of cider, food and loud music. From Friday, December 5 at 2pm and Saturday 6 at 12pm.
Early Music Christmas Festival
The National Centre for Early Music host their popular Early Music Christmas Festival from this Friday, December 5 – Sunday 14 at various locations. Boasting a range of European music from 1250 to 1750, the event kicks off with La Serenissima, this Friday and The Yorkshire Bach Choir on Saturday. Stile Antico (pictured) will include traditional old-German carols in their Christmas concert next Sunday (Dec 14).
Acomb Christmas Festival
Acomb throws itself into Christmas from this weekend. Fun family show A Christmas Cracker by Riding Lights Theatre launches Acomb’s festive festival on Friday in Acomb Parish Hall from 5pm. Many other events are happening around the area from Friday to Monday, December 22.
Cabaret and comedy
“Cracking comedy sketches, amazing singers and dazzling dancers” are promised at this Evening Of Cabaret And Comedy. Staged by JB Entertainment – founded by father and son Barry and Josh Benson – the variety show takes place at Stockton on the Forest Village Hall this Saturday, December 6, at 3pm and 8pm.
