Start with old fashioned kids’ games, take in a few perfect pictures and finish with a big party. What better way to spend your York weekend?

Play Day

playdayRemember the old fashioned games before the X Box and Candy Crush? They’re back, as Door 84 Youth Club brings back marbles, hula hoops and hopscotch to celebrate National Play Day. Brownlow Street is to close as kids reclaim the street, with barbecues, face painting and music to add to the fun.

Model aircraft

model-aircraftThose magnificent men with their model flying machines hit Elvington Airfield as the Large Model Association take over the runway. Pilots from across the country and beyond will be putting the aircraft through their acrobatic paces.

The big picture

The beauty of Yorkshire is included in the exhibition; this image is of Ingleborough We have some very talented photographers in York. And to check out their work, head to the York Photographic Society exhibition over the weekend. The added bonus is the show’s venue, the rarely opened York Medical Society Rooms at 23 Stonegate. And it’s all for free (though the photos are for sale).

Sweetie fun

Will the mint with the hole win the poll, or do Smarties have the answer? York Chocolate Story staff campaign for their favouritesAre you a sucker or a chewer? Prefer Polos or Pastilles? To celebrate some of York’s most iconic sweet brands York’s Chocolate Story is holding a sweetie fun day in King’s Square, including a poll on the favourite treat.

Maze charity day

As well as getting lost inside the dalek designed puzzle, you can take part in a water balloon fight, with donations going to the Breast Cancer Campaign. All good clean fun…
