Six people had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a fire at a York flat.

Fire crews from York and Acomb were called to the blaze of a first floor property off Heworth Green at 5.46am this morning (Thursday, 16 April).

Four firefighters wore breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze with two hosereels.

The open-plan living area was damaged by the fire, heat and smoke.

The rest of the flat was smoke-logged, and the communal corridor and neighbouring properties were also hit by smoke damage.

Fire crew used thermal imaging cameras and a fan to ventilate the flat.

Six people were treated at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
