Tonight detectives have charged an 18-year-old man with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following the assault on a man on Melrosegate, York last Thursday.
The man, who answered bail today, has been remanded in custody to appear at York Magistrates Court on Tuesday 10 September 2013.
The victim remains in hospital with serious head injuries. His condition is said to be improving.

Melrosegate assault: man bailed
An 18-year-old man arrested in connection with a serious assault on Melrosegate has been released on police bail as enquiries into the incident continue.
Officers launched an investigation after a local man in his 50s was found on Melrosegate in the early hours of Thursday 5 September 2013, suffering from a serious head injury.
He was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary where he is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries.
York police are urging any witnesses to come forward as soon as possible and help the investigation.
