Princess Beatrice of York will visit the Theatre Royal on Tuesday (December 9) and enjoy a sneak preview of the panto.
The Royal Patron of the theatre since June, 2013, Princess Beatrice will learn all about the theatre’s £4.1 million redevelopment plans during her visit.
She will watch the Youth Theatre perform. Later she will see rehearsals for Old Mother Goose, before meeting the cast, two days before the pantomime’s opening night.
‘Fantastic opportunity’
Having studied drama at A Level, theatre is a passion for Princess Beatrice. She last paid a visit to the theatre in 2012 when she helped some of the 60 volunteers in the York Mystery Plays costume workshops to make items inspired by the Forties and Fifties.
She was keen to learn more about the plays after hearing about them at the Yorkshire Museum which she visited with her father, and her passion for York Theatre has continued to grow.
Liz Wilson, chief executive of York Theatre Royal, said she was delighted to welcome the princess back to the theatre.
