Police have released more details about the man whose body was found behind a York restaurant.

Officers were called out to the courtyard behind the Press Kitchen at about 8.30am on Tuesday (24 September) after the body was discovered.

Now they have identfied the man as Darren Catanach, who was 31 and from York.

Yesterday detectives said that his death was unexplained. Today a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:

  • His family said today his death was a tragic accident, and asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Catanach’s death.

Police installed a forensic tent over the body while investigations were ongoing. The restaurant, which was closed on Tuesday, has since been reopened.
