Police investigate sex attack on young woman in York

A young woman has been sexually assaulted in York.

At 3.34am on Monday (February 13), police received a report that a woman in her late teens had been sexually assaulted in the Swinegate/ Finkle Street area of the city.

Police are investigating the incident and a scene guard is in place while officers examine the area where the incident took place.

Officers cordoned off Finkle Street with tape both at the entrance next to Nevisport and the Roman Bath pub at the St Sampson’s Square end, and at the Back Swinegate end.

Anyone who was in the area in the early hours of Monday and saw anything suspicious involving a man and a woman in their late teens is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and pass information to York Serious Crime Team.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody for questioning.
