It’s become a depressingly familiar sight this year – emergency services searching a York river.
Today (Wednesday) North Yorkshire Police divers were in the River Ouse close to Blue Bridge Lane in York.
Officers were not looking for a person, but for property. The search is part of the investigation into the death of Sonny Ferry.
Sonny, 19, from Rutland in the East Midlands, died after falling into the River Ouse on a Friday night out.
His body was recovered close to the Blue Bridge on Sunday 14 April.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:
-
Police are conducting underwater searches today to look for property in connection with the investigation into the death of Sonny Ferry, 19, whose body was recovered from the river in April.
Sonny’s parents, who have pressed for action to prevent more river deaths, said his wallet wasn’t with him when his body was recovered.
