This was the scene on one of York’s busiest roads tonight (Thursday, November 24).

Police cordoned off a 30m stretch of pavement on Bootham from its junction with Grosvenor Terrace. A red phone box was contained within the taped-off area.

This stretch of road overlooks the York to Scarborough railway line.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire police told the York Press:

Police are carrying out searches in the Bootham area of York for a man who called the police earlier today, threatening to harm himself.

The searches are ongoing.
