Detectives in York are investigating following a serious assault in the city.
It occurred shortly before 9pm an Friday 5 April 2013, in a house in the Upper Poppleton area.
As a result of the incident an 81-year-old man suffered serious head and chest injuries and was taken to York District Hospital were he remains in a serious condition.
An 83-year-old woman who was also in the house was not injured although left very shaken.
A 56-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder a short time later.
A scene guard is in place at the property.
Detective Superintendent Heather Pearson, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “As a result of the incident a criminal investigation is underway. Officers are deployed to support the 83-year-old woman who is being cared for by family members.
“A number of enquiries are ongoing including tracing people who can assist.
“Detectives would like to speak to anyone who can assist in establishing a picture of the events leading up to the assault and ask that they contact York CID as soon as possible.”
