It was back in June last year when we first revealed that a new café-bar was to come with its own escape room attraction.
Since then the bar has opened – Rehab Piccadilly – but not the escape rooms.
That looks all set to change as plans have been submitted for the new attraction – with Harry Potter or Guy Fawkes themed puzzles.
Rehab has applied for planning permission to create the venue in their basement.
The retrospective application also details the change of use of the ground floor, from what was Veeno Italian Wine Bar to Rehab.
Launch in spring
The escape rooms would open from 11am until 10pm every day – and a statement on the bar’s website says the attraction will launch in spring.
Escape rooms are venues where teams get together to find clues, solve puzzles and accomplish tasks.
Under the plans four escape rooms will be created in the basement of the building.
The team behind Rehab, who also run The Habit on Goodramgate, say the attractions will be divided into a Harry Potter escape room – suitable for children and adults – and a Guy Fawkes-themed room.
Originally they considered turning the basement into a children’s play area, before hitting on this idea.
They were originally hoping the rooms would open with the café-bar back in September, but this was dashed due to contractual issues.
Rehab opens from 10am to 10.30pm Sunday to Wednesday and 12.30am Friday and Saturday. The venue also hosts live music and serves up breakfast and brunch.
York already has dedicated escape rooms: Locked In Games on Museum Street; Gr8 Escape on Colliergate; Can You Escape? on Micklegate; and Mindlock on Tower Street.
