He lasted just five matches into the new season.
Martin Gray has been sacked as York City manager, the club announced today (Sunday, August 19).
It followed another lacklustre performance by the team in their 1-1 draw with Curzon Ashton at Bootham Crescent on Saturday.
That left the club languishing in eight position, already eight points behind National League North leaders Chorley.
After the game yesterday many fans called for Gray to go – and the board clearly agreed.
The club’s full statement
The club’s Board of Directors would like to thank Martin for his services and wishes him all the best for the future.
The Board of Directors provided Martin with all the necessary financial support to rebuild his squad this summer after the team had missed out on last season’s promotion play-offs.
Regrettably, it is felt that a change is now needed.
Assistant-manager Sean Gregan is also leaving with immediate effect and the board thanks him for his services and wishes him all the best for the future.
There will be no further comment at this stage.
