A woman has been subject to a serious sexual assault in York.
The attack was reported to have occurred in the early hours of Monday morning (September 14) in the Hungate area of the city.
Police have closed streets in the area as they continue their investigation.
York St John University student accommodation on Carmelite Street was cordoned off. Other streets closed are Hungate, Dundas Street and Palmer Lane.
Stonebow and Garden Place remain open.
A York St John University spokesperson said:
The university is supporting the police with their investigation and has no further comment at this time.
