A man who had a young child with him vandalised a York bus, rendering it out of action.
The incident happened at lunchtime today (Tuesday) on the number 10 First York bus from Poppleton.
Police received a call from the bus company at 1.20pm, reporting an incident of criminal damage on a bus on Leeman Road.
A man had smashed the glass in the door of the bus, making it inoperable.
He had a young boy, aged six or seven, with him. He made off on foot towards the National Railway Museum car park.
The service had to be cancelled because of the damage.
No one hurt
Marc Bichtemann, managing director at First York, said: “I can confirm that we have had an act of vandalism that resulted in damage to one of our vehicles today.
“Thankfully nobody was hurt and we are now working with the police to identify the individual involved.”
The man is described as 5ft 9ins tall, of stocky build with a beard.
