Staff and customers at a York café were shocked after the building was attacked in broad daylight.
The incident happened at the Rae & Webb coffee shop on Gillygate at about 1.40pm today (Tuesday, February 20).
A woman hit the side door of the premises with a hammer and was shouting loudly.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said:
Police were called to a café on Gillygate, York, at about 1.40pm today, to a report that a woman was shouting and had damaged a door with a hammer.
Officers attended, and a 60-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and affray.
She remains in custody at this time.
No one was hurt, although some in the café were left shaken by what had happened.
