Life as a firefighter is always unpredictable.
Today (Saturday March 3) crews from York tackled two very different challenges – and there wasn’t a fire in sight.
When wicked looking icicles were spotted hanging precariously over pavements on Market Street and Feasegate, it was the fire service who came to the rescue.
A team from the city fire station were called out at 10.19am and knocked down the icicles hanging with water reach poles wielded from a 13m-high ladder.
This afternoon it was the turn of the a Huntington crew to help out.
At about 4.30pm man with a three year old child had become stuck inside a locked disabled toilet of a fast food outlet on Sterling Road, Clifton Moor.
Firefighters used an angle grinder to open the door and release the pair.
