The caravans that were pitched illegally on Heworth Stray have left.
They complied with an enforcement order issued by City of York Council, and moved off the public land on Sunday afternoon (26 May).
Earlier in the day the police had visited the stray. Officers also called on some of the residents of the houses that overlook the stray.
The people in the caravans were then seen tidying their rubbish into bin bags.
After they left there were three piles of rubbish, which included two car wheels.
The first two caravans arrived overnight on Monday. They were followed by at least three more later in the week.
A City of York Council spokesperson confirmed that camping of any kind is prohibited on the stray. A neighbourhood enforcement officer served them with a direction to leave notice.
