A new flood alert was issued for the River Foss in York on Thursday evening (January 7).

The Environment Agency updated the status at 8.27pm, issuing and alert for “land adjacent to the river Foss from Stillington to the River Ouse in York, including the Huntington Road area in York”.

This is the information from the agency:

This flood alert has been issued due to levels on the River Foss responding to recent rainfall.

Although levels are rising we do not expect to see the levels seen during the Christmas period.

Rainfall has now stopped over the catchment and river levels are not expected to rise much farther overnight.

The current level of the River Foss at Huntington is 2.2m.

The statement added: “We will continue to monitor the situation and will update this message when further information is available.”

Flood warnings remain on the River Ouse at St George’s Field, Rowntree Park, Naburn Lock and Kings Staith, Queens Staith, South Esplanade and New Walk.

Tomorrow the Met Office is forecasting showers, possible longer spells of rain on Saturday with a drier day on Sunday.
