A man tried to lure a 13-year-old girl into his car in York – and only drove off when she threatened to scream.

Police are stepping up their patrols after the incident, which happened at around 5.30am on Tuesday, April 28.

A man driving a silver or grey Ford estate car, possibly a Mondeo or Focus, approached the teenage girl who was walking along Tang Hall Lane.

The man tried to verbally entice the girl into his car but then drove off when the girl said she would scream.

Have you seen him?

The suspect is…

of oriental appearance
skinny build
aged from 25 to 30
with brown toned skin
and short black hair.

He was wearing

a navy blue jumper with a ribbed neck
and black or blue jeans.

Police inquiries so far revealed that the car drove up and down Tang Hall Lane for several minutes at the time of this incident so it may have been noticed by residents or other motorists.

Police are asking anyone who was walking or driving in the area at the time of the incident to get in touch.

In particular, they would like to speak to a man who was walking his dog, and a woman walking alone, who were both seen along Tang Hall Lane around the time of the incident.
