Emergency services were called out after a man set fire to a manhole cover last night (Sunday).
It happened off Nunnery Lane at 9.23pm.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire control received a call from the police stating a male had deliberately used accelerants to ignite a manhole cover at his property.
“York’s fire appliance was mobilised and attended. The fire was confined to the accelerant only and no further damage was caused.
“The male was subsequently left in hands of the police. “
