A man has died following a collision with a taxi on Micklegate in York in the early hours of Saturday (March 26).

Police were called just after 2.30am to reports of an incident involving a Ford Mondeo taxi cab and a pedestrian.

Paramedics were also called and treated the man at the scene. He was taken by ambulance to York Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The man is believed to be in his 20s and from the Pickering area, although police are not yet in a position to formally release his identity.

Enquiries into the incident are continuing and the man’s family is being supported by specially-trained officers.

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anything significant in the moments before it happened to get in touch immediately on 101 and quote incident number 1210052322.
