Issued by City of York Council
A York primary school has joined the campaign for a Smarter York by designing a poster to urge people in their local ward to bin litter.
The school council of New Earswick Primary School contacted the council to help beat the amount of litter bothering pupils in the Huntington and new Earswick Ward.
Officers met the pupils’ elected representatives and agreed to launch a poster competition. The winning poster is to be created into a sign and fixed to lamp posts in New Earswick, thanks to funding by the Parish Council and the school.
Rt Hon Lord Mayor Cllr Keith Hyman said: “Helping remind local people of their responsibilities to look after their local community is a great message and I’m really pleased these young people have decided to support that. It’s good to know a new generation of litter-aware people are putting their design talents to such good use.”
All members of the school were involved in the design challenge, over 60 entries were submitted from the 210 pupils: some hand-drawn, others created on the computer.
