The government has seriously upped its restrictions today.

At a press conference Boris Johnson said that people should work from home if possible, and should avoid non-essential contact.

Here’s a summary of the new measures:

  • If one person has symptoms – a cough or a temperature – the whole household should stay at home for 14 days
  • People should start working from home where possible
  • People should stop ‘non-essential contact’ with others
  • That means avoid pubs, clubs, theatres and other such social venues.

But schools stay open for now.

The Prime Minister said the government is giving “very strong advice” that places like theatres should close. The government has the power to force closures but he does not think it will be necessary to use those powers.
