A new case of coronavirus has been confirmed in York

The latest official figures show a new case of coronavirus has been confirmed in York tonight (Tuesday, 24 March).

That means the total number of cases in the city has reached 11.

And there’s been a sharp rise in the confirmed cases in North Yorkshire – up from 24 yesterday to 30 today.

In East Yorkshire there is no change at 16.

Here are some of the key figures:

  • Total UK cases: 8,077
  • Daily confirmed UK cases: 1,427
  • Total UK deaths: 422
  • Confirmed cases in York: 11
  • Confirmed cases in North Yorkshire: 30

It comes as North Yorkshire Police said they were prepared to use their powers to enforce the new social distancing rules.
