Meet York’s new morning person.
A familiar face to many from her time as the weather presenter on Look North, Kay Crewdson has been revealed as the next host of BBC Radio York’s breakfast show.
Kay’s first day behind the mic is on February 6. She takes over from Georgey Spanswick who goes on to a national role.
‘Over the moon’
Kay is looking forward to the challenge – despite having to be up with the larks.
“I hope to ease everyone into the day with lots of laughs and the biggest stories,” she said. “I’m excited to get started, although I’m enjoying the odd lie-in while I still can.
“Over the past few years the people of York and North Yorkshire have welcomed me and made me feel right at home. I’m over the moon to be coming back to BBC Radio York to present the breakfast show.”
Kay currently works for the BBC in the East Midlands but is returning to York where she previously presented popular Saturday game show Finders Keepers.
Kay Crewdson At Breakfast will be on BBC Radio York Monday to Friday from 6am until 9am.
It will mean saying goodbye to Georgey Spanswick, who started her breakfast stint on Monday, May 19 2014.
She is leaving to take over the BBC Local Radio week night evening show, which is broadcast across England.
Georgey said: “It’s a wrench to leave breakfast but it helps that I’m handing over to my old mate Kay – she’ll be brilliant.”
That marks the end of an award-winning era. The team won Best Local Breakfast Show at the Arias – the radio equivalent to the Oscars – in 2016.
