With a triumphant cry of “Team Rough” Lizzy Gilpin held her daughter’s hair aloft.
It was the moment Amy Gilpin, 13, fulfilled her impressive promise to lose 12 inches of her long locks to raise money for a memorial to her cousin, Katie Rough.
Amy, who lives in Louth, Lincolnshire, is well on the way to raising £500 – and you can help by donating at her GoFundMe page here.
Even Amy’s hair will go to a good cause. It’s being sent to The Little Princess Trust, who make free wigs for little girls and boys who have lost their hair through cancer treatment and other illnesses.
She was cheered on by supporters, many wearing T-shirts with a picture of Katie on them, and rainbow-coloured wristbands with the slogan #TeamRough.
Katie’s parents, Paul and Alison, went along to support Amy.

Amy’s amazing effort was part of a day of fundraising events at the Gateway Church Centre in Acomb for Katie, seven, whose funeral at York Minster took place last Monday.
First came a family fun day, while the same venue was playing host to a Concert For Katie in the evening.
The money will be divided between the fund for a memorial to Katie and city charities York Mind and The Island.
