When York Rescue Boat was founded in 2014 they didn’t immediately take to the water – it took nearly a year of fundraising to pay for the basic equipment to get started.

Since then, a dedicated fundraising team has been established and it is their efforts that pay for much of the day to day running costs.

The charity now faces running costs of around £20,000 a year. And it is looking for more volunteer fundraisers to help meet this target.

From charity balls to street collections, the money generously donated by members of the public, keeps boats and vans fuelled, storage costs paid for, and many other things that are vital to keeping people safe in and around York’s rivers.

These are the people that spend evenings and weekends holding meetings, sorting out venues, applying for appropriate licences, folding leaflets, collecting tombola prizes, sorting and labelling prizes, filling sweet jars, adding to the games we have on stalls to raise money – the list goes on for events big and small.

As a volunteer you will:

  • give back to your community
  • boost your CV
  • help plan, organise and run events
  • help seek new avenues of fundraising
