Delays are to be expected when Stonebow completely closes to traffic from Monday (18 February).

There will also be full overnight closures of

  • Pavement between 25 March and 5 April
  • Fossgate between 25 March and 12 April, and
  • Stonebow between 1 and 5 April (Monday to Friday 8.30pm to 5am only)

The roadworks are part of a £1.1 million City of York Council scheme to improve these streets.

The aim is to improve their appearance and character, make them more pedestrian-friendly and improve access for pedestrians and cyclists.

Buses diverted

Bus services from two of the city’s six park and ride sites and around 10 other bus services will be diverted.

Some stops will not be served during the works.

Alternatives routes are in place for all affected services and users are being asked to plan their travel now to avoid delays or confusion when the works start.

Affected routes include: Park and Ride at Grimston Bar (8) and Monks Cross (9) and services 6, 11, 12, 13, 14, 21, 25, 181, 840, 843 – see below for more details.

The council’s head of transport Tony Clarke said: “We are aiming to complete the works and have the roads back to normal in early April. We apologise for any inconvenience caused throughout the works.”
