After months of grey, gloomy and cold days, York finally got to bask in some proper heat on Thursday (April 19). And most people in the city were loving it.
The mercury hit 24C, making it the hottest day of the year so far. Residents flocked to York’s parks and riverside to bask in the wonderful weather.
This early summery spell comes thanks to warm air from the Azores, off the coast of Portugal, being dragged up towards the UK by the combined efforts of an area of low pressure over the Atlantic and high pressure over western Europe.
Tonight it will drop to 9C with another lovely, if slightly cooler day, forecast for Friday when 19C is the expected high.
Predictably, come the weekend we are looking at showers (Saturday) and grey cloud (Sunday).
