Popular entertainer Joe Longthorne won’t now return to York until 2015. The singer has postponed his summer concert as he prepares to undergo surgery for throat cancer.
Joe was due to due to play the Grand Opera House, York, in August. That show has been cancelled and a new date set for the show – Friday, February 6, 2015.
A major operation on his cancer is due to take place on July 2, and gigs after that date are being postponed to allow him time to recover.
Shows prior to the op, including the ones at the Kirk Theatre, Pickering on June 19 and the City Varieties Leeds on June 20, go ahead as planned.
The singer, who found fame when his Shirley Bassey impressions helped him win TV talent show Search For A Star, has already come through leukaemia, undergoing a successful bone marrow transplant in 2006.
“Please do try not to worry about me; I am in the expert hands of my consultant and his staff,” Joe wrote on his Facebook page.
“They have guided me through this illness so far and I have complete confidence in being in their hands going forward to my operation and then my recovery.”
