Inmate on the run after escaping from York prison

A prisoner serving a sentence for violent offences is on the run after absconding from a jail near York.

Leah Dixon, 20, was serving a three-year sentence at HMP Askham Grange, Askham Richard, following her conviction at Teesside Crown Court for grievous bodily harm with intent against a woman at a pub in Hartlepool.

“Extensive enquiries have been ongoing since she absconded from the prison on December 19, 2015,” said a police spokeswoman.

“These have largely been focused in the Hartlepool and Middlesbrough areas where she has connections.”
