This was the sight that greeted shoppers in King’s Square today (Tuesday).

A large aerial platform was brought in, blocking most of the square shortly after 11am.

It took up most of King’s Square and some of the junction between Church Street and Goodramgate

The square has been cordoned off, while a police officer and York Street Rangers were on hand directing people around the obstacle.

Rangers had been told the platform was necessary to carry out roof inspections on the building which houses Boots and adjoining properties.

It is not known how long it will be in the square.
