It’s the sort of question which could spark many hours of heated debate. Undaunted, the York Green Party is to ask: ‘What has Europe ever done for us?’
That is the theme of a public meeting being held at Millers Yard, Gillygate, on Friday evening.
The main speaker is Andrew Cooper, the Green Party lead candidate for Yorkshire & the Humber in this year’s European Parliament Elections.
“The Green Party’s position on Europe is ‘Yes, yes, yes’ – yes to a referendum to enable proper debate; yes to Britain remaining part of the European Union; and a very big ‘yes’ to dramatically changing the way the EU operates,” says Denise Craghill, chair of York Green Party.
Andrew Cooper has been a councillor in Kirklees for the last 13 years.
He will talk about what he considers to be the many positive aspects of the EU, as well as what Greens think should be changed. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion from the floor.
“With a recent poll putting the Greens on 12 per cent (more than the 10-11 per cent we need in this region) we have a very real chance of electing him,” Denise said.
