The money was destined to support the NHS heroes who are working so hard on behalf of us all.
But instead it has gone into the pocket of a thief.
This collection box was filled with cash for the York Teaching Hospital Charity, supporting the work of the NHS across the region.
It was broken into at Scarborough Hospital at the weekend. The trust isn’t sure how much was taken as the money is only collected when the box is emptied.
A spokesperson for York Teaching Hospital Charity said:
We are shocked and saddened that someone would steal charity funding from their local hospital, particularly at a time like this when public support for the NHS is so high.
These funds go directly to help staff and patients.
Fortunately we continue to receive amazing support from our local community and we have had some incredible donations and fundraising even during the lockdown.
