He used to run one of York’s best loved bistros.
But since closing Bistro Guy on Gillygate and taking his food on the road Guy Whapples has been dishing out his bespoke pizzas across the city and beyond.
These days Bistro Guy serves up hand-stretched sourdough wood-fire pizzas from a mobile vintage horsebox, taking it to villages, private parties and more.
And, in a year of great challenge for the hospitality sector, it has been a great success.
Now Guy and his team want to give something back. So for every pizza sold in December they are donating £1 to be split between two key York charities.
Guy said: “The industry I am in has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic due to the lockdowns.
“My family and I would like to personally thank you for your support and encouragement during 2020.
“Without the support we would not now be able to help so many other people through the charity donations that we hope to raise in December.”
Two great causes
During the first lockdown, father-of-three Guy donated pizzas to York Hospital on a regular basis and also cooked and provided substantial meals for those self isolating and vulnerable in villages around the city.
Now he is supporting these two charities:
York Mind: “This is an organisation that needs even more support now and in the next years due to increasing demand for their services.”
SASH – Preventing youth homelessness: “Although many of us have a warm home some people don’t have anywhere to stay. This year there has been an increase demand for numerous reasons. Everyone should have a safe place to sleep at night.”
