A gang set upon a young York man as he walked by the river, punching and kicking him until he lost consciousness.

The attack happened between 8pm and 8.30pm last Tuesday (November 22).

A group of males and females approached a man in his 20s who was walking towards the city centre on the riverside walk near Rowntree Park.

Four males from the group assaulted the victim, knocking him to the floor, punching and kicking him numerous times causing him to pass out before they ran off.

One was described as being around 18 years old, of stocky build, wearing a blue hooded top with the hood up.

Officers are conducting enquiries and are requesting the public’s assistance to help determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

In particular, police are appealing for information about the individuals involved and part of the group.
