The review of the York bar was glowing.

Sadly the date was not equally impressive.

When Alison Chappell met her boyfriend at Sutlers on Fossgate, everything was set for a great evening. But as her Facebook review revealed, things soon took a turn for the worse.

Alison, from Leicester, wrote:

Really nice bar, lots of atmosphere and good Sauvignon Blanc.

Unfortunately halfway through said wine my boyfriend’s phone bleeped with a Tinder message which, of course, I wasn’t supposed to see.

So our visit was cut short, and he consequently got dumped and we drove back to Leicester (very uncomfortable car journey as you can imagine).

I’d recommend this pub definitely, but best to go with someone who isn’t a lying cheating shit head as you’ll have a much nicer time than I did.

Cad and bounder

A warm welcome… Sutlers

In its reply to Alison Sutlers Bar & Kitchen, opened in March 2015 by Richard Beal, described her date as a cad and a bounder.

‘Captain Darling’ from Sutlers wrote: “Alison you sound like an absolute sweetheart. We’re sorry your visit didn’t turn out as planned.

“Your boyfriend sounds like an absolute cad and a bounder.

“We deplore such actions. It’s unbecoming of a true gentleman.

The Facebook exchange

“If you’d mentioned this at the time we’d have defended your honour by challenging said scallywag to a duel or at the very least given him a shake of our heads and sent him on his way with a collective tsk tsk! and advise that a gentleman should always treat his fair maiden with the utmost respect.”

And Cpt Darling made this offer…

The next time you’re in York, with a new beau or with chums, pop in and say what-ho! We’ll make sure your next visit is a far more enjoyable one.

Tinder Tuesdays

The famous wine, as advertised on Sutlers’ Facebook page

After Alison’s post went viral – featuring on websites as diverse as the Lad Bible and Mail Online – Sutlers sensed an opportunity.

They have now launched Tinder Tuesday, “in homage to a recent customer who visited us”.

The offer? Buy two large glasses of the now famous Sutlers Sauvignon Blanc, and get the rest of the bottle for free. As they said:

“A bit of manners never goes amiss, from us not the cad. Pop in and ask for Darling when you order a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. The Chappell seat is becoming very popular…”
