Inside York’s newest bar: 12 pictures of cocktail hotspot just opened in historic venue
It has changed so much that only occasionally do you remember that York’s newest bar was once one of its most traditional shops.
The Botanist on Stonegate has emerged from what was once china and glassware stalwarts Mulberry Hall. And although it has a completely fresh look, the bar and restaurant has a distinctly retro vibe.
Complementing the building’s 15th century beams and wooden floors, The Botanist features distressed cupboards and wing-back leather armchairs.
It is the 11th bar to open in the chain run by The New World Trading Company. The York pub and restaurant has a floorspace of 5,000sq ft, with 80 covers across the ground floor.
Visitors can try a range of botanical cocktails including a Plum and Thai Basil Mojito, a Cinnamon and Oregano Old Fashioned alongside beers, ales, a wide selection of gin, and wine.
Prices for cocktails start at £7.95.
On the food front, The Botanist serves brunch, lunch and dinner with starters priced from £4.95 and mains from £9.95.
There will be live gigs in the evenings as well as “lazy Sunday afternoon music sessions”.
To celebrate its opening, the pub will be hosting a wishing tree in St Helen’s Square on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (November 19 and 20).
You are encouraged to make a wish, with the bar owners promising to make some of them come true.
