Firefighters were called out to a fire at a York war memorial on Tuesday (June 27).

The crew were called out at 5.40pm to an old mattress on fire near the Leeman Road war memorial.

They put the fire out using a single hose reel.

A spokesman for the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service said that the “cause of fire was believed to be deliberate”.
