Man arrested on suspicion of arson after fire in York flats

A man has been arrested following a fire in a York block of flats early this morning.

A fire crew from Acomb were called to a ground floor flat fire in Festival Flats on Paragon Street, York, at 12.33am on Tuesday (August 1).

All the occupants were safely out on arrival.

Firefighters put out the blaze and cleared the smoke with a ventilation fan.

Police were called to the scene at 12.50am by the fire service. They arrested a local man on suspicion of arson.

The man, aged in his 20s, is in custody while police and fire service investigations continue.
