Y01 Radio’s Summer Time Special
Sat Aug 24 @ 11.00 am - 3.30 pmFree
Music, games, magic and fun are on the menu this Bank Holiday Saturday (24 August) at York’s Coppergate Shopping Centre, when YO1 Radio hosts a summer spectacular on the central lawn of St Mary’s Square.
Weather forecasts predict warmer temperatures and dry weather for the bank holiday weekend – ideal conditions for al fresco fun in the family-friendly heart of the city, according to centre manager, Pippa Unwin. “The Coppergate Centre is one of the friendliest parts of town, where people regularly come for a coffee in the square, so we’re confident that this weekend’s Summer Spectacular will draw the crowds – our friends at YO1 Radio have organised a superb line-up of entertainment throughout the day, and with our own cafés, burgers and pizza from our mobile outlets and foot-tapping music, there will be a great party atmosphere throughout the day.”
The event builds on last summer’s launch event for YO1 Radio, and will see the return of top York party band, The Superlicks, pumping out hits to start and end the day. They’ll be joined by the Yorkshire Tenor, Jacob Walsh, a street musician, and the YO1 team with plenty of opportunities to participate in gameshow fun throughout the day. The event runs from 11am until 3.30pm and is completely free.
Visitors on the day will also be invited to share their pictures of the latest Coppergate Brollywalk, a suspended display of 36 umbrellas which are changed each month throughout the summer. August’s theme is Impressionist Painters, with umbrellas featuring paintings by Van Gogh and Monet, celebrating the success of Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience which is open in York St Mary’s until January.
