Clements Hall Local History Group are pleased to announce that their first talk in 2019 will be Susan Major, presenting her local history researches: “Bishy Road – 150 years of our local shopping street”.
All are welcome, members £1, visitors £3.
There are some fascinating stories about historical changes to our local shops, about Teddy Boys and Chinese laundries, about how the street has reflected shopping trends over 150 years, and some puzzles too.
And how Bishy Road was threatened by plans for an Inner Ring Road in the post-war period.
Membership of the History Group costs just £5 a year, to support an award-winning group which has carried out a range of exciting and innovative projects over the last six years, and continues to research varied aspects of the history of Scarcroft, South Bank and Clementhorpe.
Join Clements Hall Local History Group at the first talk on 18 January, or send a cheque for £5, payable to Clements Hall Local History Group, to us at Clements Hall, Nunthorpe Road, York, YO23 1BW. Please contact us with queries on 01904 466086 or email email@example.com.
There’s a bar at the Hall, serving beer and wine at evening talks, as well as tea and coffee. There are a small number of free parking spaces near Clements Hall.
It is also easily accessible from the station (10 minutes on foot) and by buses stopping in Blossom Street (walk along Moss Street opposite the Everyman Cinema).
