Stoneyard Open Day
Fri Aug 30 @ 9.00 am - 3.00 pmFree
Go behind the scenes at York Minster’s Stoneyard and see the ancient craft skills used to preserve the 800-year-old cathedral at the annual open day.
Visitors will be able to see the cathedral’s craftsmen and women at work in their workshops and learn about how they repair, restore and protect the cathedral’s historic fabric using techniques passed down through the centuries.
Join Master Mason John David for a tour of the plaster cast museum and drawing office. Tours run every hour from 10am-2pm and no pre-booking is required – spaces will be given on the day on a first come, first serve basis.
Or take a trip up the South Quire Aisle scaffolding to see the stone conservation work taking place on this part of the cathedral. The tours will run every 45 minutes from 9.30am to 2pm.
Places are limited and should be booked in advance.
The event and all tours are free of charge.
