Does life begin at fertilisation? Is it a human right to have children? Should scientific progress happen at any cost, regardless of the consequences and implications?

Melanie Spencer directs brand new play Space. Planets. Stars.

Set in 1967 during a time when America and Russia were head-to-head in a race to conquer space – Space. Planets. Stars. is a powerful account of human resilience and determination, which sees a group of British scientists push towards a radical innovation: a test tube baby. A turbulent dispute between ethics and progression – the battle questions how far one would go to realise human potential. After all, the scientists who are remembered are those that do the brave thinking.

IRL York also presents three new mini plays from York’s most exciting new playwrights. Showcased immediately before Space. Planets. Stars. all three pieces explore the theme of space in contrasting and brave styles.

Takes place at the Scenic Stage Theatre, Department of Theatre, Film and Television, University of York.
