Poetry is an amazing art form but is often unnecessarily ‘off limits’ to people who have communication needs if they are deaf or have sight loss.
Poetry for ALL (part of York Literature Festival) brings the joy of poetry and the spoken word to all on Thursday 14 March, 7.30pm in the Unitarian Chapel. This event has been specially created for people with sight and hearing loss but is open to everyone with an interest in the spoken word. Featuring Donna Williams, “The Deaf Firefly” whose first language is British Sign Language (BSL); Jackie Hagan, an award winning disabled performance poet; and Imogen Godwin, who has sight loss. Rose Drew and Fay Roberts co-host, and Vicci Ackroyd is our BSL interpreter. Seven local/regional poets provide excellent support.
Tickets for this event are just £5.83 (including online booking fee) through Eventbrite and on the door.
The event is fully accessible and will include British Sign Language interpretation and Big Screen projection of the poems. Support dogs welcome. Wine, beer, and juice available for donation. Last year was amazing! Please join us again.
