The latest rail strike means ALL local and transpennine train services in North Yorkshire have been cancelled today.
The train drivers’ union has dismissed as “tokenism” a pay offer reportedly being drawn up by the government.
Mick Whelan, the general secretary of Aslef, said the union had received no offer nor entered fresh talks, but said a possible £2,000 rise reported in the Sun “would not fly”.
Northern and TransPennine Express trains are in the depot and not even running between Leeds and York. There’s no service at all at Malton
CrossCountry Trains to Birmingham and the South West have also been cancelled.
LNER has been able to operate a few trains at York on the run to London and Edinburgh.
The last service to London will be just after 7pm tonight.
Grand Central has also been operating a near normal London service from Thirsk and Northallerton which also calls at York.
At Selby, Hull Trains is also unaffected by the industrial action.
Working terms and conditions as well as pay are at the heart of the rail dispute with unions worried about changes and how they impact on rail safety.
Network Rail is planning to cut 1,900 jobs as part of changes to the way its maintenance teams work – although it insists most of this could be achieved by people leaving voluntarily.
