Jill Ray’s landscapes – digital art exhibition
Tue, September 22 @ 10.00 am – Sat, October 24 @ 4.00 pm
Our main exhibition features the landscapes of local digital artist Jill Ray. The exhibition opens on Tuesday 22nd September 2020 and runs until Saturday 24th October 2020 – coincidentally, this overlaps the York Mediale Festival, a celebration of digital and media arts, which runs 21st-25th October.
Jill developed her print technique whilst practising as a landscape architect, but soon found that her fascination for making images this way inspired her in a new direction. Often using an iPad as a portable sketchbook, the hills of Yorkshire and Peak District, her local woodlands and the coastline of England and Wales provide much of her subject matter.
Jill loves to explore the subtle ways similar shapes and patterns echo and repeat, and the way sunlight overlays pattern and drama in the composition, exploring them in the graphic lines of her works.
Aside from its regularly changing art exhibitions village gallery is York’s official stockist of Lalique glass and crystal, and additionally sells a great selection of art, jewellery, ceramics, glass and sculpture, much of it the work of local artists.
Village gallery is normally open Tuesday to Saturday, and can be open at other times by arrangement.
In these covid times we take everyone’s health seriously, have regular cleaning and disinfecting routines in place and hand sanitiser is available for visitor use. The gallery is small so to meet social distancing recommendations we can only welcome one person/family group in the shop at a time. The wearing of facemasks is now compulsory … but if you are hard of hearing and need to be able to see our face to lip read, please just let us know so we can wear an appropriate visor.
Tuesday – Saturday 10:00 – 16:00
