2019 sees the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing. We thought it rather fitting to create a celebratory running event along the solar system cycle route in York.
The scale model of the solar system is spread out along the old East Coast mainline railway (the cycle track between York and Selby).
There are 3 distances to choose from – 10km, half marathon and marathon distance.
The 10km is an out and back route, along half of the solar system course and back. The half marathon route is two full out and backs (slightly longer than the 10km route) and the marathon distance is 4 laps. There is a generous 7 hour cut off for the event.
The event starts and finishes at the end of the cycle track by the Askham Bar Park and ride. Please note that there free parking and toilets are available at York College. There are drinks stations along the route. We try to host cupless events but given that this is an out and back route and not a lapped event, there will be cups available on the course. Runners are welcome to bring their own cups/bottles and leave these at the start/finish area or carry these with them – they can be filled and refilled with water or squash.
There is a bespoke medal, a goody bag and homemade cake for all finishers.
