Garagefeast #1 – “Behind The Dead Door”
Sat Apr 6 @ 6.00 pm - 11.00 pm
There was this thing in York for ages called Behind The White Door. Some jumped-up guy thinking he was “it” swaggering round The Fulford Arms like he was king of the castle, introducing bands and forcing people to hand over their loose change, in the name of rock and roll.
Well that’s all gone now. Behind the dead door. D. E. D.
Which (somehow) brings us to this…
From the tiny brain that brought you Behind The White Door, comes a new event for those who like their music low-down and dirty. GARAGEFEAST seeks to bring the best of the best from the UK’s underground garage rock scene, and shove them all onto a gig together, so you can come along and clap at them.
X RAY CAT TRIO
Undisputed kings of the rock and roll underground, you bet your fern they are headlining the first of these gigs! Slick drumming, twangy surf guitars, a big double bass and howling vocals. It’s garage rockabilly done to purrrrfection. See what I did there? Cats.
Oh yes! From Cats to cows! All the animals! Current BBC Radio 6 darlings Cowgirl are wanged up near the top. These events are about the best of the best after all! Cowgirl play dream-i-licious smooth garage rock, that is sure to schmooze your socks off. The songcraft in this band is second to none.
York debut for this tough as nails four piece! Whizzing out of London, like a crazed bat on amphetamines, The Spacewasters play real rock and roll, with amps cranked up to 11. Blaring, blasting garage rock and roll that can go 12 rounds with any band and still be standing up.
York’s most loveable band. Easily. Garage pop/punk lovelyness. Who knows who will be in the lineup on the night? I don’t think Eugene Gorgeous even know! If you like your garage rock to be cooler than the contents of a fridge on full power, then Eugene Gorgeous (or just “Eugene” as everyone knows them) are the band for you!
Another debut! Infact, this is their FIRST EVER GIG. Don’t ask me what’s going to happen, because I don’t know! There’s a man called Andy who’s got lovely long hair, and a sublime drummer called Danny who wears a naughty, cheating wrist watch. I don’t know what this set is going to be about, but I am proud as punch to be having their first one!
NO VIDS NO LINKS NO NOWT.
Hastily added to the liney-up, Middle Child are going to whip out an opening acoustic act for us. The band that used to be obsessed with Worms, is back and has brand new feels. It’s a lovely dollop of trashy, slackery goodness. This will be the first of many Fulford outings.
£6 on the door.
And before you moan, that’s A QUID PER BAND.
